Guardian Fireboat SF

San Francisco history.
San Francisco history.
Guardian, San Francisco Fire Department's retired Fireboat No. 2, is getting ready for her next chapter.
Guardian Fireboat No. 2 is a 1951 fireboat that proudly served Vancouver, B.C. before she was decommissioned and purchased by anonymous donors for the City of San Francisco in the wake of the devastation caused by the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake.
In 1990, Guardian joined Fireboat No. 1, Phoenix at SFFD Station 35, as protectors of the city. To this day, Guardian remains one of the strongest pumping systems ever built, flowing 28,000 gallons per minute through her six fully functional monitors.
Guardian was officially retired by the City in 2022, and was purchased at auction by a handful of committed individuals with backgrounds across fire service, maritime, and business, with the intention of preserving and restoring her, sharing her with the public, and keeping her active on SF Bay.
